NSI attends the MTI Open Day at Keetmanshoop

Following a series of successful Open Day events held by the Ministry of Trade and Industry, the NSI also participated in the Open Day held at Keetmanshoop on Thursday, 29 April 2010. The aim of the Open Day was to enable the Namibian public access to the Minister, staff of the Ministry and the specialised agencies of the Ministry.
The Open Day was an initiative of the Minister of Trade and Industry, Dr. Hage Geingob, and was attended by amongst others, the Namibian Standards Institution, the Office of the Permanent Secretary and all the Departments and Directorates of the Ministry.
The NSI made use of this opportunity to inform young people about the different careers that can be followed in Standardisation in Namibia; as well as the benefits the use of standards hold for SME’s. This is in line with the NSI’s Strategic Theme from its Strategic Plan, 2008-2012, which is to ‘establish a clear footprint and identity that establishes NSI as the National Standards Body.’ It should be noted that standards make the development, manufacturing and supply of products and services more efficient, safer and cleaner. Namibia is also in need of more young people to study in the areas of standardisation, metrology and conformity assessment.
The NSI's stand was manned by the Chief Executive Officer, Riundja Ali Kaakunga (Othy), assisted by the GM: Corporate Services and other Senior Officials of the institution, who advised the visitors on their queries.
