NSI attends the Unam Career Fair
3rd, June 2010The Namibian Standards Institution had the opportunity to participate in the UNAM Career Fair held at the UNAM Gym Hall in Windhoek on 3 June 2010. The aim for participating in the career fair was to create awareness on the careers in quality assurance that can be followed in Namibia. During the fair information was made available about:
• The activities of the NSI
• Different careers which can be followed in quality assurance in Namibia – requirements and job descriptions
• The role standards play when producing or manufacturing products
The NSI stand was visited by many interested students who are studying Engineering, Science or Economics. These students wanted to know more about the activities of the NSI, the role that the organisation plays in Namibia’s economy and the process and value of standardisation. They furthermore enquired about career opportunities at the NSI, and whether bursaries and internships were available.
The NSI representatives explained that careers in standardisation are required in Namibia, i.e. Scientists, Engineers, Metrologist, Conformity Assessors, Standards Developers, etc. It was further explained that the NSI is a new organisation, which does not currently provide bursaries and internships; but that it might be possible to do so in the future.
Representing the NSI at the UNAM Career Fair was: Albanus Sindano (Standards Officer), Johannes Hamukwaya (Product Certification Officer), Revival Doëses (Manager: HR) and Annemarie Saunderson (Corporate Communications Officer).
Out of the 10 exhibitors, the NSI received the 4th place as one of the best stands.
