The NSI has put together a comprehensive capacity building programme to ensure that all staff within the Metrology Division are competent to provide the required service to Industry. Mr Brian Beard of the National Regulator for Compulsory Specification (NRCS) facilitated the following training courses on two separate sessions from 7-8 November 2011 and 5-9 December 2011:
The following NSI staff members participated: M Blasius, G Mabakeng, V Mundembe, S Sankwasa, S Shikomba, E Naimbwele, E Swartbooi from the NSI Metrology Division; David Nyau, Jason Endjala from NSI Fisheries Inspectorate and L. Tjiriange from Certification department.
In addition to the theoretical training, practical training was also carried out in the laboratory as well as on-site sessions at Bokomo Namibia and Namib Mills. Each participant was assessed after training through an examination at the end of training on each SADCMEL document.
The outcomes of the courses were a sound understanding of the requirements of the SADCMEL documents and the ability to follow the verification test (or inspection) methods. In addition, the division is now in a position to draft and implement its own procedures for verifications and inspections based on the SADCMEL documents and contribute meaningfully to the drafting and administration of a new metrology act and its regulations.
